The Cats
Cats have long been symbols of femininity, fertility, and protectors of the home.
Many people are familiar with the Egyptian goddess Bastet, protector of evil spirits and disease, particularly those affecting women and children.
The Norse goddess Freyja, associated with beauty, fertility, and magic rides in a chariot drawn by two large cats, the Boar god Hidisvini at her side (see "Miscellaneous Menagerie"), a cloak made of Falcon feathers around her shoulders (see "Birds").
My first cat was named Morris, after the 9Lives grumpy cat commercial star of the 70s. We adopted him from the ASPCA and he was my best friend for almost two decades.
The Lioness pendants are inspired by the lioness sculptures guarding the entrance to the Morgan Library in NYC. The lion pendants are inspired by Patience and Fortitude, the two stone lions guarding the entrance to the New York Public Library. The Kitten is inspired by my Morris, maybe he rest in peace.
